The objective of S-Zorb is: to reduce sulfur content in FCC gasoline to ultra-low levels (≤10 ppm) without damaging olefin content.
Basic Process
1.FCC gasoline is mixed with hydrogen and sent into the adsorptive reaction reactor.
Under operating conditions of 350–450 °C and 0.5–2.0 MPa, organic sulfur compounds in the gasoline react with a special adsorbent (Zorb catalyst).
2.Sulfur is captured by the adsorbent and converted into metal sulfides.
3.During regeneration, air or oxygen-lean gas is introduced to oxidize the sulfur into SO₂, which is discharged. Meanwhile, the adsorbent is regenerated and reused. This adsorption–regeneration cycle allows continuous desulfurization.
Therefore, the S-Zorb process is essentially a cyclic adsorption–regeneration desulfurization system, widely adopted in many Sinopec refineries across China.
For example, in Sinopec Guangzhou, Berae delivered S-Zorb filter cartridges in 2014, 2017, 2021, and 2024—four complete sets in total.
Each set of cartridges has demonstrated a continuous service life of up to 36 months.
Their excellent stability and durability have significantly reduced replacement and shutdown costs, earning strong recognition from end-users.
Given the harsh operating environment and demanding requirements for stability and service life, there are very few domestic suppliers capable of manufacturing S-Zorb filter cartridges within the Sinopec system.
